Dream Screen Doors – A screen door is a great way to not just let some fresh air and sun into your home, but also to keep insects and other pests out in the exact same time. By employing a screen door, you have the capacity to maintain your home enclosed, while allowing a breeze, either when the weather is warm or anytime you just want to let just a bit of atmosphere in. Although you can buy screen doors for your home, they are actually fairly simple to make, requiring just a few supplies and tools, using simple building methods. Screen doors can be either very simple in design, or could be more elaborate, depending on your wants and building skills.

Supplies you’ll need, You will require some thin wood inventory to use for the screen door structure, a hardware framework for the doorway itself, and screen meshing, together with a 1/4 inch by 3/4 inch screen molding. Some basic tools such as a tape measure, hamper, knife, chisel, staple gun and knobs will be necessary.

Choose a well-dried timber to prevent future timber shrinkage, warping or swelling. Measure the dimensions of the doorway you want to build, and cut on the vertical and horizontal pieces to fit. While building the doorway, it can help to clamp the door pieces to a work table. To make the corner combines, as well as when adding the center horizontal support piece, you’ll want to take off half the depth of a single piece of timber where they will match a saw, so the overall finished thickness of the joint will probably be equal to that of a single piece of wood. Use a polyurethane glue and a brush to attach the timber service pieces together, then clamp and let it dry completely. When the adhesive joints are completely dry, you can sand the doorway, and employ a stain and clear finish, or paint the door if needed.

Adding the Screen to the Door, Putting the doorway flat on the job table, measure the overall opening and cut a piece of screen material into the appropriate dimensions, leaving a few inches around the edges to make installation easier, which is trimmed later. Lay the screen over the surface of the door frame, and staple it to the peak of the framework, pulling it tightly towards the base of the doorway. Be sure to pull on the screen tightly in the flat directions too, keeping in mind that screen tends to elongate over time. The screen can be stapled directly to the doorway, as the staples will be dealt with by molding which will be set around the edge of the screen. After the screen has been stapled firmly into position, trim the screen and cover the edges with all the screen molding.

Finishing the Job, Once the doorway itself has been assembled, it is possible to install the door frame itself, and then attach the new screen door into the framework. Attach a door handle and fasten the door into the framework with spring hinges so the door will shut automatically.
